Keeping the Station Afloat!
Posted by Rick Ainley on Feb.07, 2007, under 2NG Happenings!
For some obscure reason I love this hobby! 2NG was started by me nearly two years ago, it was born out of another station “Platinum Hits”, and gradually it took the format we have today. One test for me is to listen to my own station and still like it.
That said, it costs money to keep the service afloat. Since my listings on iTunes and Windows Media, it means that my listener count keeps rising and the costs do to!!
Currently I spend about $138 on licensing, that way it keeps the station legal and the artists and songwriters will reap the reward for the music I play. Additionally about $300 is spent on streaming servers that allow you to logon and listen to 2NG.
The ability to play commercials is always there, however I prefer being able to listen to commercial-free radio, it’s the music I prefer! So, finally, cap in hand, I’ve started asking for donations. I feel somewhat awkward, however from the emails I get, many of you love the station. Sadly, I can no longer carry on paying out of my own pocket. Hopefully we can keeo going. Remember, any donation is a great help.
